Your original file is never modified. Every action produces a new image.

What does the metadata viewer show?

A single photo can carry hundreds of hidden fields: the camera make and model, exposure settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), the exact date and time of capture, the GPS coordinates where it was taken, the editing software used, the owner's name and even the camera's serial number. AI-generated images add their own layer: C2PA Content Credentials, Stable Diffusion parameters or an IPTC digitalSourceType marker. This viewer shows all of it, organised so you don't need to know a single tag name.

How do I read EXIF data from a URL?

No need to download an image first: switch to the From URL tab and paste a direct link. The image is fetched server-side and read the same way, handy as an online EXIF reader to check a picture before you ever save it to your device.

Can I export the metadata?

Yes. Once analysed, export the complete metadata listing to TXT, CSV or JSON for your records, an investigation or a support ticket.

How do I remove what the viewer finds?

If the photo reveals more than you'd like, clean it on the spot, or jump to the dedicated remove metadata & EXIF tool. To change fields instead, use the metadata editor. To check whether an image was AI-generated, use the AI image checker.

Frequently asked questions

What is an EXIF viewer?

An EXIF viewer is a tool that reads the hidden metadata stored inside a photo (camera, settings, date, GPS location, software) and shows it in readable form. ExifClean is a free online EXIF and metadata viewer that also flags privacy-sensitive fields.

How do I view the EXIF data of a photo?

Upload the image above or paste a link. ExifClean reads every EXIF, IPTC and XMP field in seconds and groups them by category (camera, dates, location, author, software and AI), with a privacy score and a GPS map.

Can I view image metadata online without installing anything?

Yes. It runs in the browser as an online metadata viewer, with no app and no account. The image is sent over an encrypted connection, analysed, and the temporary file is deleted immediately; nothing is stored.

How do I see the GPS location of a photo?

If the photo contains GPS coordinates, the viewer shows them on an interactive map with the exact latitude and longitude, and gives you a one-click option to remove them.

Which fields can the metadata viewer display?

Everything ExifTool can read: the full EXIF, IPTC and XMP layers, maker notes, embedded thumbnails, colour profile info, plus AI-generation fields such as C2PA Content Credentials and Stable Diffusion parameters.

Is the EXIF viewer free?

Yes. Viewing metadata, exporting it (TXT/CSV/JSON) and cleaning images are all free, with no account.
